The Shoalhaven on the NSW south coast is home to an amazing variety of birds and is a mecca for birdwatchers.
BirdLife Shoalhaven promotes a better understanding of our birds and works tirelessly to ensure their survival.

Shoalhaven Bird Lists

There are many databases claiming to show definitive lists of the birds of the Shoalhaven. These databases include Birdata, eBird, the Atlas of Living Australia, the NPWS NSW Bionet, and iNaturalist. All of them are different, often with different common names and scientific names for the same bird, and some contain obvious mistakes i.e. birds endemic only to Western Australia! Some include historical data for birds that are now locally extinct, and some are simple errors of identification by inexperienced "citizen scientists".

We therefore have compiled our own "Working List of Shoalhaven Birds" - taking data from all the different databases and modifying them with actual observations by highly experienced birdwatchers within the BirdLife Shoalhaven membership. This list contains rarities that have been seen in the Shoalhaven, but are unlikely to be seen on a regular basis.

A Google sheet showing our list of 400 Shoalhaven birds can be found at The BirdLife Shoalhaven Working List of Shoalhaven Birds.

A printable checklist for all 400 Shoalhaven birds can be found at Checklist of 400 Shoalhaven Birds.
